Part of the magic of the Holidays for me is the observance of various
rituals and traditions. In the uncertainty of everyday life, Holidays act
like an anchor between the past and the present, holding the ship of life
steady and bringing some calm amidst the storm.
During holidays while I lived at home, Mum made Homemade Liqueur and Appetizers for the family.
1 liter (33.8 ounce) vodka
1 cup granulated sugar
3 (8 ounce) packages dried apricots
In large jar combine all ingredients. Cover and let stand 6 weeks, stirring every 2 weeks.
Remove apricots. Strain liqueur several times through double thickness of cheesecloth. Pour into decanter or bottle. Cap tightly.
Makes 3 cups.
