Buying a Crock Pot:

When buying a crockpot you'll find that there are a lot of options available to you.

Size: Buy the largest one you think you'll need for your family. For two people you can probably get by with a 3 1/2 qt size. For more people you should opt for a larger one.

Removable liner: This is a very nice feature for both cleaning purposes and transporting food.

Heat options: The standard models have a low and high heat setting. Some have a medium option. Some models offer an "auto" setting. Some have a built in timer.

Cleaning the Crock Pot:

After using the crockpot, do not add cold water to it to remove the food. Either let it cool to room temperature, or add hot soapy water to it and let it stand. Adding cold water can cause the inside of the slow cooker to crack.

Crock Pot safety:

The crockpot is designed to be left alone. However, you should always take some general precautions.

Make sure the pot is not touching walls or other items on your counter. The outside of the crock may get hot.

Always inspect the plug and cord before plugging in. Make sure it is firmly plugged in.

Always inspect the inside of the slow cooker before adding foods. Do not use if you find cracks or breaks.
